TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY:
RESEARCH PROJECTS AT RRC

NEW! INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING IN RESEARCH?
Find out which of our current research studies are enrolling participants. Learn more about the studies to see if you might want to be involved.

NATIONAL TBI DATABASE
The RRC contributes medical, psychosocial and demographic data to a collaborative TBI database. Information is collected while individuals are hospitalized and also through periodic interviews or evaluations. The data allow specific research questions to be answered from a national sample. To find out more about the TBI Model Systems and its National Database visit its website at www.tbindsc.org

FATIGUE AFTER BRAIN INJURY
Two studies will characterize the type and impact of fatigue after brain injury: 1) a cross-sectional study of those up to 10 years post-TBI and 2) a longitudinal study that focuses on the evolution of fatigue over the first two years post-injury. Both studies will utilize standardized measurements of fatigue, as well as those for depression/affective disorders, sleep disturbance, activity scales and measurements of hormone levels reflective of the health of the neuroendocrine system.

POST-TRAUMATIC SEIZURES
Two studies will characterize the impact of late post-traumatic seizures on recovery: 1) a study utilizing data in the TBI National Database that compares the functional, vocational, and medical complication outcomes of those with and without late post-traumatic seizures; 2) a study in collaboration with Denver Hospital Medical Center that will evaluate barriers to the environment, transportation and challenges in control of their seizures. Participants will be individuals who previously participated in a seizure risk study at the two centers.

CENTER FOR OUTCOME MEASURMENT IN BRAIN INJURY (COMBI)
The Center for Outcome Measurement in Brain Injury (COMBI) acts as a national resource for information regarding brain injury outcome scales. The center maintains information on the most widely used outcome scales in TBI. The COMBI can be accessed at www.tbims.org/combi
