SPINAL CORD INJURY:
COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES
SCI RESOURCE
CENTER
The RRC staff gathers and updates resource information
relevant to persons with SCI. The Resource Center is comprised of information
regarding assistive technology, education, community resources, legal
and financial resources, parenting, sexuality, recreation and independent
living. The RRC staff also maintain a directory of physicians familiar
with SCI in our catchment area. Resource information is available free
of charge and can be accessed toll-free by calling (800) 352-1956 (Richard
Patterson),or by emailing richard.patterson@hhs.sccgov.org.
The Spinal Cord
Injury - For Your Information (SCI-FYI) Resource Guide is available
in print (for a fee) or online (for free!). The SCI-FYI is a collection
of hundreds of resources for individuals with spinal cord injuries.

SCI PEER
SUPPORT PROGRAM
The Peer Support Network is an effective means of providing
one to one support to individuals in the community. Newly injured individuals
and family members are matched with an individual with an SCI in their
community. Peer supporters are available throughout Santa Clara County
and in the Marysville/Sacramento area. For more information email Richard
Patterson at richard.patterson@hhs.sccgov.org.
SCI SUPPORT
GROUPS
The RRC coordinates an SCI Support Group for individuals
with SCI and family members in the local area. Monthly meetings are
held to provide the opportunity for individuals with SCI to share ideas,
resources and concerns with one another. The RRC facilitates a Women's
Support Group that focuses on issues of particular interest to women
with SCI. The RRC also facilitates a Family Support Group for families
and friends. For more information email Richard Patterson at richard.patterson@hhs.sccgov.org.
